Quran 33

This is Quran chapter 33

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

O prophet! Fear God and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites; indeed, God is ever knowing, wise! And follow what is inspired to you from your Lord; indeed, God is ever aware of what you do. And rely upon God, for God is guardian enough.

God has not made for any man two hearts in his inside; and He has not made your wives whose backs you liken to the backs of your mothers as your mothers. And He has not made your adopted sons your sons. That is your saying with your mouths, but God says the truth, and He guides to the way!

Call them by their fathers; it is more just in God's sight; but if you do not know their fathers, then they are your brothers in religion and your clients. And there is no crime upon you for what mistakes you make therein; but what your hearts do purposely - but God is ever forgiving merciful.

The prophet is nearer to the believers than themselves, and his wives are their mothers. And blood relations are nearer to each other in the Book of God than the believers and those who fled; except your doing kindness to your friends, that is written in the Book.

And when We took from the prophets their covenant and from you and from Noah, and Abraham and Moses and Jesus, son of Mary; and We took from them a solemn covenant. That He may ask the truthful of their truth. And He has prepared for the disbelievers a painful punishment.

O you who believe! Remember God's favour upon you when hosts came to you and We sent upon them a wind and hosts you could not see; - and God sees what you do.

When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when the eyesights were distracted and the hearts came up into the throats, and you assumed about God the assumptions. There the believers were tried and shaken with a severe shaking.

And when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is sickness said, 'God and His messenger promised us nothing but delusion.'

And when a party of them said, 'O people of Yathrib; there is no place for you, so return.' And a part of them asked permission of the prophet, saying, 'Indeed, our houses are exposed; but they were not exposed, they only wished to flee.

And if they had been entered upon from its environs then been asked to show treason they would have certainly done it; but they would only have tarried in it a little while.

And certainly, they had covenanted with God before, not to turn their backs; and God's covenant shall be enquired of.

Say, 'Flight will not avail you if you flee from death or killing; and then you shall not be granted enjoyment except a little!'

Say, 'Who is it that can save you from God, if He wish you evil, or wish you mercy?' And they will not find for themselves beside Ģod a patron or a helper.

Verily, God knows those who hinder among you, and those who say to their brothers, 'Come to us,' and they come not to the battle but a little. Covetous towards you. But when fear comes, you see them looking towards you,  their eyes rolling like one who faints from death; but when the fear departs, they will assail you with sharp tongues, covetous of the best. Those have not believed, so God will make their works vain, and that is easy for God.

They think the confederates have not departed; and if the confederates should come, they would wish they were in the desert among the Bedouins, asking about your news! And if they were among you they would not fight except a little.

Certainly you have in the messenger of God a good example for whoever hopes for God and the last day, and remembers God much.

And when the believers saw the confederates they said, 'This is what God and His messenger promised us; God and His messenger are true!' And it only increased them in faith and submission.

Among the believers are men who have been true to what they promised God. And among them is he who has fulfilled his vow, and among them is he who waits and they have not changed with fickleness.

That God may reward the truthful for their truth, and punish the hypocrites if He please, or turn again towards them. Indeed, God is forgiving, compassionate!

And God drove back those who disbelieved in their rage; they attained no good. God was enough for the believers in the fight, and God is strong, mighty!

And He sent down those of the people of the Book who backed them from their fortresses and cast terror into their hearts; a part you slew and you took captive a part.

And He caused you to inherit their land, and their houses, and their properties and a land you had not trodden, and God is ever powerful over everything.

O prophet! Say to your wives, 'If you desire the life of the world and its adornments, then come, I will provide for you and release you with a fair release. But if you desire God and His messenger and the home of the hereafter, then indeed, God has prepared for those of you who do good a great reward!'

O women of the prophet! Whoever of you commits manifest fornication, the punishment shall be doubled for her twice; and that is easy unto God! And whoever of you is obedient to God and His messenger and does right, We will give her her reward twice, and We have prepared for her a noble provision.

O women of the prophet! You are not like any other women; if you fear then do not be too complaisant in speech, lest he in whose heart is sickness yearn; but speak a reasonable speech.

And stay in your houses and do not show yourselves with the ostentation of the former times of ignorance; and be steadfast in prayer, and give alms, and obey God and His messenger; - God only wishes to take away from you the abomination, people of the house! And to purify you.

And remember what is recited in your houses of the signs of God and wisdom; Indeed, God is subtle, aware!

Indeed, men who have surrendered and women who have surrendered, and men who believe and women who believe, and obedient men and obedient women, and truthful men and truthful women, and patient men and patient women, and humble men and humble women, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their private parts and women who guard, and men who remember God much, and women who remember, God has prepared for them forgiveness and a mighty reward.

It is not for a believing man or for a believing woman, when God and His messenger have decided an affair, to have a choice in their affair; and whoever rebels against God and His messenger certainly, has erred an obvious error.

And when you said to him God had shown favour to and you had shown favour to, 'Keep your wife to yourself and fear God;' And you concealed in your soul what God was to display; and you feared men, and God has more right that you should fear Him; and when Zaid had fulfilled his desire of her We married her to you that there should be no hindrance to the believers concerning the wives of their adopted sons when they have fulfilled their desire of them: and the command of God is to be done.

There is no hindrance to the prophet about what God has ordained for him; - the course of God with those who have passed away before, - and God's command is a decreed decree!

Those who preach God's messages and fear Him and do not fear anyone except God, - and God is sufficient to take account.

Muhammad is not the father of anyone of your men, but the messenger of God, and the seal of the prophets; and God has knowledge of everything.

O you who believe! Remember God with much remembrance, and glorify Him morning and evening.

He it is who sends His blessings upon you and His angels too, to bring you out of the darkness into the light, and He is compassionate to the believers. Their salutation on the day they meet Him shall be 'Peace!' And He has prepared for them a noble reward.

O prophet! Indeed, We have sent you as a witness and a herald of glad tidings and a warner, and as one who calls to God by His permission, and as an illuminating lamp. And give glad tidings to the believers, that for them is great grace from God.

And do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites; and disregard their harm, and rely upon God, and God is guardian enough.

O you who believe! When you marry believing women then divorce them before you have touched them, then there is no period for you to count concerning them; so provide for them and release them handsomely.

O prophet! Indeed, We make lawful for you your wives to whom you have given their wages, and what your right hand possesses out of the booty that God has granted you, and the daughters of your paternal uncles and the daughters of your paternal aunts, and the daughters of your maternal uncles and the daughters of your maternal aunts, who fled with you, and any believing woman if she gives herself to the prophet, if the prophet desires to marry her; - exclusively for you, apart from the believers. Certainly, We know what We ordained for them concerning their wives and what their right hands possess, that there should be no hindrance to you; and God is forgiving, compassionate.

You may put off whomever you will of them and take to yourself whomever you will. And whoever you desire of those whom you had set aside - and it shall be no crime against you. That is nearer to cheering their eyes and that they should not grieve, and should be satisfied with what you have given them - all of them. And God knows what is in your hearts; and God is knowing, clement.

It is not lawful for you to take women after, nor to change them for wives, even though their beauty please you; except what your right hand possesses, and God is ever watchful over all things.

O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the prophet, except permission is given to you, for a meal, - not watching till it is cooked! But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, then disperse, not engaging in familiar discourse. Indeed, that would annoy the prophet and he is shy of you, but God is not shy of the truth. And when you ask them for an article, then ask them from behind a curtain; that is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not for you to hurt the messenger of God, nor to marry his wives after him ever; indeed, that is with God a serious thing.

Whether you display a thing or conceal it, indeed, God has knowledge of all things.

There is no crime against them concerning their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or what their right hands possess; and fear God, - indeed, God is witness over all things.

Indeed, God and His angels send blessings upon the prophet. O you who believe! Send blessings on him and greet him with greetings!

Indeed, those who annoy God and His messenger, God will curse them in the world and the hereafter, and prepare for them shameful punishment!

And those who annoy believing men and believing women for other than what they have earned, then certainly, they bear calumny and manifest sin.

O prophet! Say to your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers, to let down over them their outer garments; that is nearer for them to be known and not annoyed; and God is forgiving, compassionate.

Surely if the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a sickness and the insurrectionists in Medinah do not desist, We will surely incite you against them. Then they shall not dwell near you therein except for a little while. Cursed wherever they are found, - taken and slain with slaughter! God's course with those who have passed away before: and you shall never find in God's course any change.

The people will ask you about the Hour; say, 'The knowledge of it is only with God, and what will make you know? Perhaps the Hour is near?'

Indeed, God has cursed the disbelievers and has prepared for them a blaze! To dwell therein  for ever; they shall not find a patron nor a helper!

The day their faces will be turned about in the fire they shall say, 'O, would that we had obeyed God and obeyed the messenger!'

And they shall say, 'Our Lord! Indeed, we obeyed our chiefs and our great men and they led us astray from the path! Our Lord! Give them double punishment and curse them with a great curse!'

O you who believe! Do not be like those who annoyed Moses; but God cleared him of what they said, and he was regarded in the sight of God.

O you who believe! Fear God and speak a straight-forward speech. He will correct for you your works, and forgive you your sins; and whoever obeys God and His messenger certainly has attained a mighty happiness.

Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they refused to bear it, and were afraid of it; but man bore it; indeed, he is ever unjust and ignorant.

That God may punish the hypocritical men and hypocritical women, and the idolaters and idolatresses; and that God may turn relenting towards the believing men and believing women; and God is ever forgiving, compassionate.
