About

Peace be on you! Welcome!

Below is a brief narration of how this blog came to be...

I usually give people free electronic copies of different translations of the Quran. One day, via WhatsApp, I sent a copy to the phone of an older lady. But she told me that she could not read it; because of her eyes, as she cannot stare at the phone screen for long. This got me thinking about other people who may have the same problem. I thought about myself; what if God allows me to grow old and my eyesight becomes weak. How would I read the Quran?

So I decided that I had to record the audio of the Quran in a language that I understand very well - English. And in Ramadan 1443 (April 2022), HibiscusT955559 was redefined. (HibiscusT955559 blog and podcasts had been created prior to this event; I had initially set up the HibiscusT955559 podcasts to disseminate my preaching. But I realised that recording the audio of the English translation of the Quran came first.)

The Process:

Please note that this work is a synthesis of several English translations of the Quran.

For each verse of the Quran, I started by reading and writing out the text of Edward Palmer's English translation of the Quran (The Sacred Books of the East Volume VI and IX, 1880).

Then I went to: https://corpus.quran.com and perused the seven English translations of the Quran available there, I also reviewed and edited what I had written down using the word by word translation available at corpus.quran.com. I tried to ensure that what I was writing down is easy to read and understand, and that it is as close as possible to the word by word translation of the Quran.

For a couple of difficult verses, I utilised the English translations of the Quran at: http://www.islamawakened.com/index.php/qur-an

After writing and editing, I typed out the written text, re-reading as I typed and checking for errors. Then I created the blog post for each chapter (or for part of a chapter, when the chapter is long).

I did not include verse numbers in the typed out material. This is primarily because the end goal of the work is that it would be read out aloud, so the numbers would not matter. I acknowledge and apologise for the inconvenience this may cause you (I hope to include verse numbers in a future text copy of the work, if God wills. Update: This is the link to the pdf and epub files with verse numbers included).

For the HibiscusT955559 podcasts, I simply read out aloud the corresponding blog post. Then I updated the blog post with the link to the podcast.

I assure you that the process was quite thorough. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you find any errors.

I hope we can all benefit from this work.

Please take some time to explore The HibiscusT955559 Project Website.

Thank you.
