Quran 23

This is Quran chapter 23

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Indeed, prosperous are the believers who are humble in their prayers,

And who turn away from vain talk,

And who are active in almsgiving.

And who guard their private parts - except from their wives or what their right hands possess for then indeed, they are not to be blamed; - but whoever craves beyond that, then those are the transgressors -

And who observe their trusts and their covenants,

And who guard their prayers:

Those are the heirs who shall inherit Paradise; they shall dwell therein.

And indeed, We created man from an extract of clay; then We placed him as a drop in a safe lodging; then We created the drop a clot, then We created the clot a lump, then We created the lump bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, then We produced it another creation; So blessed is God, the best of creators!

Then indeed, after that you surely die; then indeed, on the day of resurrection you shall be raised.

And indeed, We created above you seven roads; and We are not heedless of the creation.

And We send down from the heaven water by measure, and We make it rest in the earth; and indeed, We are surely able to take it away. And We produce for you thereby gardens of palms and grapes wherein are many fruits for you, and from which you eat. And a tree growing out of Mount Sinai which produces oil, and a condiment for those who eat.

And indeed, in the cattle there is surely a lesson for you; We give you to drink of what is in their bellies; and you have therein many advantages, and of them you eat, and on them and on the ships you are carried.

And certainly We sent Noah to his people, and he said, 'O my people! Worship God, you have no god other than Him; will you then not fear?'

But the chiefs of those who disbelieved among his people said, 'This is nothing but a mortal like you, he wishes to gain superiority over you, and had God pleased surely He would have sent angels; we have not heard of this amongst our fathers, the ancients: He is nothing but a man possessed; so wait with him until a time.'

He said, 'My Lord! Help me because they call me liar!'

So We inspired to him, 'Make the ship under Our eyes and Our inspiration; then when Our command comes and the oven boils over, then conduct into it of every kind two spouses, and your family, except those against whom the word has passed; and do not address Me for those who do wrong, indeed, they are to be drowned! And when you are settled, you and those with you in the ship, then say, "Praise belongs to God, who saved us from the unjust people!" And say, "My Lord! Make me alight in a blessed alighting-place, for you are the best of those who cause to alight!"'

Indeed, in that surely are signs, and indeed, We are surely testing.

Then We raised up after them another generation; and We sent amongst them a messenger of themselves, 'Serve God, you have no god other than He; will you then not fear?'

And the chiefs of his people who disbelieved and called the meeting of the hereafter a lie, and to whom We gave enjoyment in the life of the world said, 'This is nothing but a mortal like yourselves, he eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. And surely if you obey a mortal like yourselves, indeed, you will then surely be losers! Does he promise you that when you are dead, and have become dust and bones, that you will be brought forth? Away, away with what you are promised, - there is nothing but our life of the world! We die and we live, and we shall not be raised! He is nothing but a man who forges against God a lie. And we will not believe him!'

He said, 'My Lord! Help me, because they call me liar!'

He said, 'Within a little they will surely awake repenting!'

And the noise seized them in truth; and We made them as rubbish borne by a torrent; so away with the unjust people!

Then We raised after them other generations. No nation can anticipate its time, nor can they delay.

Then We sent Our messengers one after another. Whenever its messenger came to a nation they called him a liar, so We made some of them to follow others; and We made them stories; so away with a people who do not believe!

Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs, and a clear authority to Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they were too big with pride, and were a haughty people. And they said, 'Shall we believe two mortals like ourselves, and their people are servants of ours?' So they called them liars, and were of those destroyed.

And certainly We gave Moses the Book, that perhaps they might be guided.

And We made the son of Mary and his Mother a sign; and We lodged them both on a high place, furnished with security and a spring.

O you messengers! Eat of the good things and do right; indeed, what you do I know! And indeed, this nation of yours is one nation, and I am your Lord; so fear Me.

And they have become divided as to their affair amongst themselves into sects, each party rejoicing in what they have. So leave them in their flood until a time.

Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children, We hasten to them in good? - nay, they do not perceive!

Indeed, those who are apprehensive from fear of their Lord, And those who believe in the signs of their Lord, And those who with their Lord join none, And those who give what they give while their hearts are afraid that they unto their Lord will return, - These hasten in good things and they are foremost in them.

And We will not oblige a soul except its capacity; and with Us is a book that speaks the truth, and they shall not be wronged.

Nay, their hearts are in a flood at this, and they have works beside that which they do until when We seize the affluent ones amongst them with the punishment; behold! They cry for help. Do not cry for help today! Indeed, from Us you will not be helped. Certainly My signs were recited to you, but you used to turn back on your heels, big with pride at it, in vain discourse by night.

Have they not pondered the word, or has there come to them that which had not come to their forefathers?

Or do they not know their messenger, so they deny him?

Or do they say, 'In him is madness?' Nay, he came to them with the truth, and most of them are averse to the truth.

And if the truth had followed their desires, surely the heavens and the earth and whoever is in them would have been corrupted! - Nay, We brought them their reminder, but they from their reminder turn aside.

Or do you ask them for a tribute? But the tribute of your Lord is better, and He is the best of those who provide.

And indeed, you certainly call them to a straight path; and indeed, those who do not believe in the hereafter surely are deviating from the path.

And if We had mercy on them, and removed what was upon them of the distress, surely they would persist in their rebellion, blindly wandering on!

And indeed We seized them with the punishment, but they did not abase themselves to their Lord, nor did they humble themselves; until when We opened for them a door with severe punishment, behold! They are in despair.

And it is He who produced for you hearing, and sight, and minds, - little is it that you thank.

And it is He who scattered you in the earth, and to Him you shall be gathered.

And it is He who gives life and causes death; and His is the alternation of the night and the day; Have you then no sense?

Nay, they say like what the former people said. They said, 'What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we surely be raised up? Verily we have been promised this, we and our fathers, before; - this is nothing but tales of the former people!'

Say, 'Whose is the earth and whoever is in it, if you know?' They will say, 'God's.' Say, 'Will you not then mind?'

Say, 'Who is Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the great throne?' They will say, 'God's.' Say, 'Will you not then fear?'

Say, 'In whose hand is the dominion of everything; He succours but is not succoured, - if you know? They will say, 'God's.' Say, 'Then how are you bewitched?'

Nay, We have brought them the truth, but indeed, they surely are liars! God has not taken any son, nor is there any god with Him; - then each god surely would have taken away what he created, and some of them surely would have risen up over others, - Glory be to God above what they attribute! He who knows the unseen and the visible, exalted is He above what they associate!

Say, 'My Lord! If you should show me what they are threatened with, - my Lord! Then do not place me among the unjust people.' And indeed, We are surely able to show you what We threaten them with.

Repel evil by what is better. We know best of what they attribute.

And say, 'My Lord! I seek refuge with you from the incitings of the devils; and I seek refuge with you, my Lord! Lest they be present with me.'

Until when death comes to one of them, he says, 'My Lord, send me back, that I may do right in what I left behind.' Nay, indeed, it is a word he speaks; and behind them is a barrier until the day they are raised.

And when the trumpet is blown, and there shall be no relationship between them on that day, nor shall they question one another. And he whose scales are heavy, then those - they are the prosperous. But he whose scales are light, - then those are they who lose their souls, in Hell, abiding!

The fire shall scorch their faces, and they shall curl their lips therein! Were My signs not recited to you, and you used to deny them? They say, 'Our Lord! Our misery overcame us, and we were a people astray. Our Lord! Take us out from it, and if we return, then indeed, we shall be wrongdoers.'

He will say, 'Go away into it and do not speak to Me. Indeed, there was a party of my servants who said, "Our Lord! We believe, so forgive us, and have mercy on us, and you are the best of the merciful ones." And you took them for a laughing-stock until they made you forget my remembrance, and you used to laugh at them. Indeed, I have recompensed them this day because they were patient; indeed, they are the triumphant.'

He will say, 'How long did you tarry in the earth, by number of years?'

They will say, 'We tarried a day or part of a day, but ask those who keep count!'

He will say, 'You tarried not but a little, did you know. Did you then think that We created you for sport, and that you would not be returned to us?'

So exalted be God, the King, the True! There is no god but He, Lord of the noble throne.

And whoever calls upon another god with God has no proof of it, but his account is only with his Lord; indeed, the disbelievers shall not prosper.

And say, 'My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and you are the best of the merciful ones!'
