Quran 40

This is Quran chapter 40

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Ha.Mim. The revelation of the Book is from God, the Mighty, the Knowing, the forgiver of sin, and the accepter of repentance, severe in punishment, Lord of bounty. There is no god but He. To Him the journey is.

None dispute concerning the signs of God except those who disbelieve, so let not their going to and fro in the cities deceive you.

The people of Noah denied before them and the confederates after them; and every nation schemed against their messenger to seize him. And they disputed with falsehood to refute the truth thereby, but I seized them, and how was my punishment!

And thus was the word of your Lord due against those who disbelieved, that they are the fellows of the fire!

Those who bear the throne and who are around it celebrate the praise of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe: 'Our Lord! You embrace all things in mercy and knowledge, therefore forgive those who turn repentant and follow your way, and guard them from the punishment of Hell! Our Lord! Make them enter into gardens of Eden which you have promised them, and those who do well of their fathers, and their wives, and their seed; indeed, you are the Mighty, the Wise. And guard them from evil deeds, and whoever you guard from evil deeds on that day, then verily you have had mercy on him, and that - it is the mighty bliss!'

Indeed, those who disbelieve shall be cried out to, 'Surely, God's hatred is greater than your hatred of yourselves when you were called to the faith and disbelieved!'

They shall say, 'Our Lord! You have caused us to die twice, and you have given us life twice; and we confess our sins: is there then a way to get out?'

That is because when God alone was called upon, you disbelieved; but if partners were joined to Him, you believed; but judgment belongs to God, the High, the Great!

It is He who shows you His signs, and sends down to you from heaven provision; but none is mindful except him who turns repentant; so call on God, being sincere in religion to Him, averse although the disbelievers are!

Exalted of degrees! The Lord of the throne! He throws the spirit of His command upon whom He will of His servants, to warn of the day of meeting.

The day they come forth, nothing concerning them shall be hidden from God. Whose is the kingdom today? - God's, the One, the Dominant!

Today every soul shall be recompensed for what it has earned. No wrong today; indeed, God is swift in account.

And warn them of the approaching day, when hearts are at the throats, choked; those who do wrong shall have no warm friend, and no intercessors who shall be obeyed. He knows the treachery of the eyes and what the breasts conceal.

And God decides with truth; but those they call on beside Him do not decide with anything; indeed, God, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Have they not travelled in the earth and seen how was the end of those who were before them? They were stronger than them in might, and traces in the earth; but God seized them for their sins, and there was not for them any defender against God. That is because their messengers came to them with the clear signs, but they disbelieved, so God seized them; indeed, He is strong, severe in punishment.

And certainly, We sent Moses with Our signs, and a clear authority, to Pharaoh and Haman and Qarun. But they said, 'A lying sorcerer!'

And when they came to them with truth from us, they said, 'Kill the sons of those who believe with Him, and let their women live!' But the stratagem of the disbelievers is only in error!

And Pharaoh said, 'Let me kill Moses; and let him call upon his Lord! Indeed, I fear that he will change your religion, or that he will cause evil doing to appear in the land.'

And Moses said, 'Indeed, I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord from every proud one who does not believe in the day of account.'

And a believing man of Pharaoh's people, who concealed his faith, said, 'Will you kill a man for saying, "My Lord is God," and indeed he has come to you with manifest signs from your Lord? And if he is a liar, then upon him is his lie; and if he is truthful, there will befall you some of that which he threatens you; indeed, God does not guide him who is an extravagant liar. O my people! Yours is the kingdom today, you are eminent in the land, but who will help us against the violence of God, if it comes to us?' Pharaoh said, 'I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right direction.'

And he who believed said, 'O my people! Indeed, I fear for you the like of the day of the confederates, the like of the case of the people of Noah and 'Ad and Thamud, and those after them; and God does not desire injustice for servants. And O my people! Indeed, I fear for you the day of crying out, - a day you will turn your backs, fleeing, having no defender from God; and whoever God leads astray, for him there is no guide! And indeed Joseph came to you before with manifest signs, but you ceased not to be in doubt concerning what He brought you, until when he died, you said, "God will not send a messenger after him;" Thus God leads astray him who is extravagant, a doubter.'

Those who dispute concerning the signs of God without authority having come to them, it is greatly hateful in the sight of God and in the sight of those who believe; thus God sets a stamp upon every heart of a proud tyrant.

And Pharaoh said, 'O Haman! Build for me a tower, perhaps I may reach the ways, - the ways of the heavens, and may mount up to the god of Moses; for indeed, I surely think him a liar.' And thus was his evil deed made fairseeming to Pharaoh, and He was turned from the way; but Pharaoh's stratagem was not except in ruin.

And he who believed said, 'O my people! Follow me, I will guide you to the way of the right direction. O my people! Indeed, this life of the world is only a provision, but indeed, the hereafter, it is the abode of stability! Whoever does evil, he shall only be recompensed with the like of it; and whoever does right, whether male or female and a believer, then those shall enter the Garden; they shall be provided therein without count. O my people! What ails me that I call you to salvation, and you call me to the fire? You call me to disbelieve in God, and to join with Him what I have no knowledge of; and I call you to the Mighty, the Forgiving. No doubt that what you call me to, ought not to be called on in the world nor in the hereafter, and that our return is to God, and that the extravagant, they are the fellows of the fire! And you will remember what I say to you; and I entrust my affair to God, surely, God sees the servants!'

So God guarded him from the evils of what they plotted, and there encompassed the people of Pharaoh the evil punishment. The fire - they are exposed to it morning and evening; and on the day the Hour shall arise: 'Admit the people of Pharaoh into the severest punishment!'

And when they argue in the Fire, and the weak say to those who were proud, 'Indeed, We were followers of yours, so can you avail us against a portion of the fire?'

Those who were proud shall say, 'Indeed, We are all in it; indeed, God certainly has judged between the servants.'

And those who are in the fire shall say to the keepers of Hell, 'Call upon your Lord to lighten for us a day of the punishment.'

They shall say, 'Did not your messengers come to you with manifest signs?' They shall say, 'Yea!' They shall say, 'Then call!' - but the call of the disbelievers is only in error.

Indeed, We will surely help our messengers, and those who believe, in the life of the world and on the day the witnesses shall stand up: the day their excuse shall not avail the unjust; and for them is the curse, and for them is an evil abode.

And certainly, We gave Moses the guidance; and We made the children of Israel to inherit the Book, a guidance and a reminder to those possessed of minds.

So be patient; indeed, God's promise is true: and ask forgiveness for your sins, and celebrate the praise of your Lord in the evening and the morning.

Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of God without authority having come to them, there is nothing in their breasts but pride; they shall not attain it. So seek refuge with God, surely He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

Surely the creation of the heavens and the earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of mankind do not know.

The blind and the seeing are not alike, nor those who believe and do right and the evildoer; little is what you remember.

Indeed, the Hour is surely coming; there is no doubt in it; but most of mankind do not believe!

And your Lord said, 'Call upon me, I will respond to you; indeed, those who are too proud to worship me shall enter Hell, humbled'

God it is who made for you the night to rest therein, and the day to see by; indeed, God is Lord of grace to mankind, but most of mankind give no thanks!

That is God, your Lord, the Creator of everything! There is no god but He, how then are you turned away? Thus were turned away those who denied the signs of God.

God it is who made for you the earth a resting-place, and the heaven a building, and He formed you and made excellent your forms; and provided you of the good things. That is God, your Lord; then blessed is God, Lord of the worlds!

He is the Living one, there is no God but He! So call on Him, being sincere to Him in the religion; praise be to God, Lord of the worlds!

Say, 'Indeed, I am forbidden to serve those whom you call on beside God, since there have come to me manifest signs from my Lord, and I am commanded to surrender to the Lord of the worlds.

He it is who created you from dust, then from a drop, then from a clot, then He brings you forth a child; then you reach your maturity; then you become old, - and of you is he who dies before, - and that you may reach an appointed time, and perhaps you may use reason.

He it is who gives life and causes death, and when He decrees a matter, then He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.

Have you not seen those who dispute concerning the signs of God, how they are turned away? Those who call the Book, and what We have sent Our messengers with, a lie, but soon they shall know - when the fetters are on their necks and the chains, they are dragged in boiling water! - then in the fire they shall be burned. Then it shall be said to them, 'Where is what you used to associate beside God?' They shall say, 'They have strayed away from us; nay, we did not call before upon anything!' - Thus does God lead the disbelievers astray.

That is because you used to rejoice in the earth without right; and because you used to be exultant. Enter the gates of Hell, to dwell therein; for evil is the abode of the proud.

So be patient; indeed, the promise of God is true; and whether We show you some of what We promise them, or We surely cause you to die, then unto us they shall be returned.

And certainly we sent messengers before you: of them are those whose stories We have related to you, and of them are those whose stories We have not related to you; and it was not for any messenger that he brings a sign, except by God's permission; but when God's command came it was decided with truth, and there those who deemed it vain lost!

God it is who made for you the cattle, that you may ride of them; - and of them you eat, and you have in them advantages; - and that you may attain upon them a want in your breasts; upon them and upon the ships you are carried.

And He shows you His signs; so which of God's signs do you deny?

Have they not travelled in the land and seen how was the end of those before them, they were more numerous than them and stronger in might, and traces in the land? But of no avail to them was what they had earned.

And when their messengers came to them with manifest signs they rejoiced in what knowledge they had; but they were encompassed by what they used to mock. And when they saw Our punishment they said, 'We believe in God alone, and we disbelieve in what we used to associate with Him.' But their faith was of no avail to them when they saw Our punishment - the course of God with His servants in time past, and there the disbelievers lose!
